BELLY DANCE CLASS SESSIONS
Most Belly Dance Classes at The Bellydance Academy run in 8-Week Sessions, or Quarterly (January/February/March, April/May/June, July/August/September, October/November/December).
HOW TO REGISTER FOR A BELLY DANCE CLASS
To register for a Belly Dance Class, please fill out the form connected to the Class Description on the "BELLYDANCE CLASSES" page.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO MISS A BELLY DANCE CLASS
When you purchase an 8-Week (or Quarter) Belly Dance Class Session, the classes are for those classes within that 8-week Session only. If something comes up and you are unable to attend your scheduled class, technically there are no make up classes, but we will try to accommodate you with a make-up class for another day that week, or the next week, if we can. Please let you instructor (or contact the studio) know that day, or ahead of that day, or as soon as you can, and your instructor will try to schedule you into another class as a "drop-in", for the same week, or following week. The "drop-in" spaces may differ from your class. Drop-in classes are only available in Beginner, Drilling or Belly-Fit Classes, available only if there is space in the drop-in class to add an additional dancer.
WHAT TO WEAR TO A BELLY DANCE CLASS?
Most Belly Dance classes do not have a dress code with the exception of advance classes. Appropriate attire for a Belly Dance Class would be similar to what you would wear for a Yoga Class or to a Gym. Breathable and flexible materials are suggested. Yoga Pants, Sweat Pants, Shorts or Skirts work well. Leotards, Tank Tops or T-shirts work well. Women may want to consider an additional sports bra (on top of your regular bra) for extra support.
WHAT FOOTWEAR IS APPROPRIATE FOR A BELLY DANCE CLASS?
Most participants start Barefoot. Jazz Shoes, Half-soles, Ballroom Shoes, Ballet Slippers may be used. No socks-to-floor or sneakers may be used (for your safety). No "outdoor" shoes may walk on the dance floor (for your safety). Any shoes on the dance floor must be "indoor shoes" only. You should be able to find appropriate dance footwear at local dance supply stores, on-line, and even at discount shoe outlets.
SHOULD I EAT BEFORE A BELLY DANCE CLASS?
This sounds like a silly question. You should always have some "fuel" a.k.a. "food" in your body prior to any exercise routine. A full pizza and calzone appetizer is not on our list of recommended pre-dance meals. Be smart. If you have been at your job all day with little to eat or nothing of substance, you may want to fuel up with a power type bar, banana, apple, etc. If you are running on empty you are taking risks with your health and may end up feeling dizzy or faint, as well as not receiving optimum benefits from your workout.
MY BABYSITTER CANCELLED, CAN I BRING MY CHILD TO MY BELLY DANCE CLASS?
YES. On the occasion that your sitter cancelled, well behaved children may visit. You will be responsible for them during their visit. We have a cushion section in the front and a small room, good for homework or a portable DVD player, in the back. We are not a day-care center, please keep in mind that we are not equipped to take care of children during the class, but if they are able to amuse themselves while you keep an eye on them, they are very much welcomed.
CAN I BRING A FRIEND TO WAIT & VIEW MY BELLY DANCE CLASS?
NO. This is a privacy issue. This is an exercise type class, not a performance. We are there to drill, learn, get fit & have fun. This is equal to asking if you can go to a gym and sit in front of the people running on the Tread Mills and watch. If a friend is in town and wants to come with you to see the class, they may pay for that class and take it with you. Sitting and watching is not an option.
CAN I VIDEO TAPE MY BELLY DANCE CLASS?
NO. This is a privacy issue. This is an exercise type class, we are there to drill, learn, get fit & have fun. This is equal to asking if you can go to a gym and video tape the people running on the Tread Mills to watch. Occasionally, during a choreography class, we will allow you to, and help you to, tape yourself drilling sections of a dance, to assist you in your home practice.
BELLY DANCE CLASS PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
The Bellydance Academy schedules two yearly student performances, we have a Bellydance Academy Showcase (June 30, 2013) and our Winter Hafla which is always the second Saturday of the year (January 11, 2014). All students that have been enrolled in classes with choreography who would like to participate are invited to perform. The purchase of costumes are required for performance along with ticket options. We do invite classes to dance at additional events, like summer festivals, occasionally, when we are able to add dancers. When we do this, we pull from our advanced Choreography Class first and then we try to include additional classes based on seniority, availability and previous performance participation at The Bellydance Academy.
ADDITIONAL BELLY DANCE CLASS PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES & WORKSHOPS
The Bellydance Academy occasionally hosts workshops of noted Belly Dancers. If you see one coming up, ask your instructor about details. Sometime we will have a Performance featuring the Belly Dance Workshop Instructor in which Workshop Participants may be invited to participate in the show.
BELLY DANCE CLASSES WITH CHOREOGRAPHY
We have several Belly Dance Classes with Belly Dance Choreography. If you join a Belly Dance Class with a choreography that has all ready begun, (a choreography may take many sessions to complete, prior to performing), you must take an extra "Choreography Break Down" Class to catch up. One Choreography Break Down Class will be offered only one time a Session, for each Belly Dance Choreography Class. This Class is required for the new dancers and also available for the continuing dancers. This special break down class costs $15 and is scheduled to fit the instructor's schedule at a different time slot than the said class. Each dancer learning a past or present choreography thru a Breakdown Session must be able to solo the dance in front of the instructor in order to be considered in upcoming performances of the dance. Dancers who do not take a Breakdown Session, will not be eligible to perform the choreography with us.
INTERMITIATE & ADVANCED BELLY DANCE CLASSES
Intermediate/Advanced Choreography Belly Dance Class Sessions have perquisites and a few extra rules. Attendance is required in our Intermediate/Advanced Choreography Belly Dance Class Sessions, and have Quarter Sessions. Missing more than 2 classes during an 3 month session or the class rehearsal prior to a performance will make the student dancer unable to participate in that performance. These sessions are continuous on our 8 week session schedule. This Belly Dance Class is designed for those dancers who want to learn choreographies and perform more often then other classes. You will be required to dance the choreography, by yourself at the studio, in front of your instructor, prior to performing with the group on a stage. The costs of Costuming & Props are the responsibilities of the student/dancer and are required for performances.
